Coalition Formation
Our Mission Statement: “FAMILY – COMMUNITY – SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS MAKING A DIFFERENCE for YOUTH”
Our Mission
The Vienna-Madison Community Coalition is comprised of volunteers from our community who are keenly interested in the welfare of our youth. Our mission is to develop and implement a community-wide partnership that promotes a drug, alcohol, and violence-free environment for all our children and youth within the school boundaries of the greater Vienna school community.
Our Strategy
The Vienna-Madison Community Coalition (aka "VMCC") is an organization under the Safe and Drug Free Youth Section of Fairfax County Public Schools. The Coalition's main goal is to bring Community and Schools together for the Prevention of Violence, Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drug use by Youth. The VMCC consists of a Board of Directors and Steering Committee that includes volunteers from all areas of Community (public sector, private sector and constituents). The Steering Committee supports three working subcommittees - - (i) Communications, (ii) Data and Marketing, and (iii) Strategic Development. These subcommittees implement the Coalition’s annual Strategic Plan, which includes prevention programs, awareness projects and the development of community partnerships.
Background of the VMCC
The Vienna-Madison Community Coalition was established in the spring of 1995 as a result of a meeting of concerned parents, educators, businesses, religious groups and community service organizations, as well as Town of Vienna Agencies and Chamber of Commerce. The participants agreed that greater community-wide awareness and involvement was, and is still, needed to ensure the safety of our youth. The Coalition is presently funded and receives administrative support from Fairfax County Public Schools through two federal grants. In 2007 the Coalition became a 501C3 enabling the opportunity to expand funding by way of membership and community donations.
